Secara sederhana, tidak ada kriteria pass atau fail dalam IELTS. Hasil tes akan diukur dengan sistem 9-band, maka hasil skor-mu akan keluar antara 1-9. Jika kamu ingin mendaftar kuliah di luar negeri, masing-masing universitas punya minimum skor IELTS tersendiri, dan inilah yang menentukan apakah kamu pass atau fail.

| Band 6 | Competent user | has generally effective command of the language despite some inaccuracies, inappropriacies and misunderstandings. Can use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations. |
| Band 5 | Modest user | has partial command of the language, coping with overall meaning in most situations, though is likely to make many mistakes. Should be able to handle basic communication in own field. |
| Band 4 | Limited user | basic competence is limited to familiar situations. Has frequent problems in understanding and expression. Is not able to use complex language. |
| Band 3 | Extremely limited user | conveys and understands only general meaning in very familiar situations. Frequent breakdowns in communication occur. |
| Band 2 | Intermittent user | no real communication is possible except for the most basic information using isolated words or short formulae in familiar situations and to meet immediate needs. Has great difficulty understanding spoken and written English. |

Menghitung Overall Band Score
Skor keseluruhan (overall band score) dihitung dengan mengambil skor rata-rata dari empat section tes (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking). Skor untuk setiap section diberi bobot yang sama. Overall band score dibulatkan ke band terdekat. Contohnya:
- Jika Sobat mendapat 6,5 untuk Listening, 6,5 untuk Reading, 5,0 untuk Writing, dan 7,0 untuk Speaking, overall band score adalah 6,5.
Skor total 25 ÷ 4= 6,25, dibulatkan menjadi 6,5.
- Jika Sobat mendapat 4,0 untuk Listening, 3,5 untuk Reading, 4,0 untuk Writing, dan 4,0 untuk Speaking, overall band score adalah 4,0.
Skor total 15.5 ÷ 4 = 3,875, dibulatkan menjadi 4,0.
